Feeding the Farmer

If you have stopped by to pick up any of our local meat in the last few days, you may have noticed the constant hum of the corn dryer. Or perhaps the change in landscape, the running combine, or tractor and drill planting cover crops. No doubt, harvest is in full swing here, and dependent upon the rain showers, will be for weeks to come.

I don't see much tractor, combine, or truck time. I play a support role during harvest, shuffling people from place to place, watching over our little ones, and keeping our hard working guys going with food to fuel them through long days.

Often when I ask my husband what he would like me to bring the field, I often hear 'a drink and protein'. Perfect, we happen to have a lot of protein! An it's no wonder this is what he craves, as the lean, healthy proteins found in many of our farm's local meat products provide lasting fuel for his long days in the field.

With kids in late afternoon and evening and activities, I seek the easy route in fixing him protein these times of year. My go to favorites are Pork Bratwursts and Pork Burgers. When I have these thawed and in the fridge, I can have them cooked and out the door in only 10-15 minutes. Others, such as the Ground Beef, Ground Pork, Bacon, and Boneless Pork Chops as found in our Family Filler Bundle are also versatile and easy to fix.

Whether you find yourself delivering meals this fall, or just needing some healthy protein that can be prepared quickly we have you covered! Take care and have a wonderful October! Thank you for your continued purchases of meat direct from our farm!

My best,

Beth Tharp
