Planting for the Future Part I [Video]

Greetings from the farm! Over the next several weeks I will share with you a series entitled 'Planting for the Future'. Through this I will share with you some of the management practices we utilize in caring for our land, water and air. I hope that it will be evident to you that our core values of Integrity, Relationships, Stewardship and Continuous Improvement govern our decisions we make in caring for our God given resources.

Over the last week we have worked to plant over 300 tree seedlings around one of our farm ponds. Having only 1-2 years of growth, and an average height of less than 2 feet, these trees are an investment in the future. There is a Chinese proverbs that says 'The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.'

Over the next few years we will see little change in our landscape, but in a decade or two there will be noticeable differences. As our kids say, when they grow up, these trees will be grown up too. When they take their kids on hikes around the farm pond, they will enjoy the cool shade, fresh air, wildlife habitats, and beauty a forested habitat provide.

Check out this video as our daughter shares a little bit about our tree planting.

My Best, Beth
